Manhattan, New York native Ahimsa, most recently started her visual arts pursuits in South Florida. The Journey is off to quite a satisfying start.
She placed in a local art show at a young age and maintained a keen interest in the visual arts throughout her adult life. She was also aware that her mother would engage in free hand drawing on occasion. Then, there was her appreciation of the works of Van Gogh that would prove to be a dormant influence. From earliest recollection, Ahimsa was always around art, or art has always been around her.
Even after becoming a museum curator, taking a course in design and a passing interest in photography, there was no thought that coming into her own as an artist was in the cards.
No better way to be inspired into such a life-enriching experience than hanging out with friends! After assisting her friend and fellow artist, Kalimba Love with shows, classes and projects, the need to create on her own could not be denied.
Ahimsa Teabout chooses the abstract perspective because it allows both freedom of expression, and even if a piece is titled, there can be freedom of interpretation.
Texture and feel are the most important elements in her approach to painting. What the viewer sees, compared to her own perspective means a lot to her as a visual artist. That perspective appeals to quite a few patrons that have placed work from her initial showings in several homes throughout the Palm Beaches. Ahimsa states that for her, painting is a heartfelt joy. That joy enriches us all.
